DPS is seeking an Epidemiologist to provide a broad range of epidemiology activities for The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-supported Ebola programs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with frequent travel within DRC and to other Ebola-affected countries in the region.
The CDC Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been activated to respond to Ebola. The WHO Emergency Committee convened by the Director General under the International Health Regulations (2005) advised that the conditions for a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) had been met and deemed a coordinated international response essential to stop and reverse the international spread of Ebola. CDC is coordinating with the U.S. Government, health ministries of the affected countries, WHO, and other domestic, regional and international partners to provide epidemiologic, health communication, laboratory, infection prevention and control, border health, social mobilization and Emergency Management support to interrupt and mitigate the current Ebola virus transmission.
Through this contract, DPS will further CDC’s mission and activities in informing the Ministries of Health on Ebola prevention and control strategies, surveillance, Ebola response improvements, immunization program implementation, data management, virus containment, and follow on activities.
The Epidemiologist will provide technical assistance to the surveillance commission within the National Coordination of CDC for the Ebola response in DRC. Primarily, this position would assist in the daily compilation and reporting of surveillance data for the overall response while pushing for data quality. In support of CDC, the Epidemiologist will provide mentoring and training to MOH data managers responsible for producing official DRC situation reports and data analyses for operational decision-making.
